It
is a pleasure to invite you to the Inaugural Canadian
Conference of Existential Analysis. The conference
is organized by Existential Analysis Society of Canada and
hosted by the Graduate Program in Counselling Psychology at
Trinity Western University. The conference will take place in
Langley, BC, Canada, from May 8-9, 2020.
Existential
Analysis (https://www.existentialanalysis.ca/who-we-are)
is a phenomenological and person-oriented psychotherapy, with
the aim of leading the person to (mentally and emotionally)
free experiences, to facilitate authentic decisions and to
bring about a truly responsible way of dealing with life and
the world. The Existential Analysis Society of Canada is a
non-profit, scientific association whose aim is to further
develop and make known the existential-analytical anthropology
and its application in psychotherapy, education, ministry,
social work, industry, workplace and management.
The
theme for our inaugural conference is “Becoming a
Community of Practice”. The theme is
intended to help all of us reflect together upon the
development of Existential Analysis as a community of
practice. Although we have been offering training in
Canada since 2006, Existential Analysis remains relatively new
to the psychotherapeutic scene. This can be considered
both a challenge in that we are relatively unknown, but also an
opportunity to shape our community in ways that support
Existential Analysis practitioners and may influence the broader
psychotherapeutic landscape.
We
invite submissions from practitioners and scholars within
psychotherapy and from related fields in the social, human and
health sciences (e.g., psychology, education, philosophy,
coaching, psychiatry, etc.). We hope to receive submissions
from within the Existential Analysis community, but also
explicitly invite submissions from persons from other
traditions who share common values (e.g., openness,
person-centered focus, authenticity, congruence, etc.).
Submissions may encompass, for example, empirical work,
clinical cases and developments, treatment studies,
applications of Existential Analysis to specific areas of
practice or populations, development or extension of methods in
Existential Analysis and Logotherapy, or
theoretical/philosophical presentations. An emphasis on
practical applications of Existential Analysis is particularly
encouraged, and all presenters are encouraged to relate their
submissions to the conference theme.
Presentation Formats
The
following presentation formats are envisioned for the
conference:
- Individual
papers/group symposia – individual
presentations of 30 minutes or combined symposium
presentations around a common theme (e.g., 2-4
presentations).
- Workshops –
practice-oriented presentation/training pertaining to
applications of Existential Analysis around a given
theme/population will range in length from 60 to 90
minutes.
- Dialogue/Discussion
sessions – these
sessions provide participants with an opportunity for
dialogue around a certain theme, idea or area of practice.
- Self-experience
sessions – group
sessions, 60 minutes in length, that facilitate group
self-experience around a given theme/idea/practice.
The
Program Committee will review all submissions and may group
individual submissions into symposia around a common
theme. On occasion, presenters may be asked to consider
an alternative presentation format to accommodate limited
presentation slots.
